Here’s a bit about myself. I’m Maureen Little and I have been growing things, on and off, throughout my life. I say ‘on and off’ because there have been periods when I have strayed from the horticultural path to pursue things like serving in the Women’s Royal Naval Service, bringing up a family, lecturing in English Literature at University, and generally keeping out of mischief.
I started, though, knee-high to a grasshopper (or should it be bumblebee), helping my Dad on his market garden in Sussex and, later in my career, after becoming a professional garden designer, and writing six books on gardening, I ended up owning and running my own plant centre specialising in pollinator-friendly plants. I have also written six books about gardening topics, the first of which, The Bee Garden, gave its name to my plant centre, as well as my writing here on Substack.
I now concentrate on writing, and giving talks to groups and societies.
So in The Bee Garden, I shall be sharing all my knowledge, experience and passion, not just for gardening – and especially gardening for insect pollinators – but for other topics that interest me too – with a bit of humour thrown in.
There will be two posts each month.
On the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month I will publish a few articles, including my Pollinator Plant of the Month, garden topics, gardening jobs, news, a piece about wildlife, occasionally a quiz, perhaps a recipe and what garden-related books, poems, art, or music I can recommend - and anything else that takes my fancy!
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you can contact me with any garden- or article-related questions, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
Every post is sent straight to your inbox, so why not sign up now, join The Bee Garden community and be part of the buzz!
